Speed writing is a fun and fast-paced exercise from my writing class where we’re given a set of words and challenged to weave them into a scene as we write. It pushes creativity, encourages quick thinking, and often leads to unexpected and exciting stories.

A soft autumn breeze flipped open her notebook as she sat on a park bench, earbuds nestled in, music humming low. Golden leaves danced around her boots, drifting from a nearby tree that arched above. She sipped warm cider, then leaned forward, pen moving steadily across the page.
She was writing about the sandstorm, the one that had swallowed her hometown a month ago. Even now, she could remember the swirling chaos, and how the sky had turned a strange, burning gold. But today felt different. The storm was only memory, softened by time and the rustle of autumn leaves.
Her maroon scarf fluttered in the breeze as she smiled faintly. The music swelled, the world glowed warm, and she wrote on, turning a harsh past into a gentle story, while the park whispered around her.

I was swept away into the descriptive story line. For a moment I found myself of a park bench with pen in hand. Thinking about the beginning of a soon to be story. Just have to wait and see what is going to happen next. Um. . . . . . . .
